In case you didn’t know…

The curtains fell on the Premier League 2018-19 season, with Manchester City successfully retaining their English crown. The Citizens registered 98 points from 38 games, putting them just one point ahead of their closest rivals, Liverpool.

The Manchester-based club won 32 games in the league this season, while losing two and drawing four.

Liverpool, one the other hand, were last crowned as the Champions of England back in 1990 and are still waiting for their first league trophy in the Premier League era. The Reds recorded their highest ever points tally in the Premier League this campaign, but it proved insufficient to end their long-standing drought.

The Merseysiders were leading Pep Guardiola’s troops in the Premier League table till late January, however, four draws in six games between late January and early March saw the Reds lose control of the title race, giving their destiny in the hand of the Citizens.

The Reds won all of their last nine league games but that proved inadequate to throw City from the summit, who also registered victories in all of their last 14 games.

The heart of the matter

Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher said that Liverpool will regret not beating Manchester City in the league this season.

He said:

What’s next?

Liverpool will square up against Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the Champions League on June 2, whereas, Manchester City will be looking forward to winning another trophy when they face Watford in the final round of the FA Cup on May 18.
