Living Politics Campaign Will Be A Colossal Brawl

To oversimplify–but only slightly–the Bush White House is going to argue that critics of its policies in the war on terrorism are treasonous weaklings. Democrats, as they are showing in their cable-TV debates, will call the president of the United States almost anything, including: an isolated, ignorant liar who launches bloody wars merely to strengthen his own political standing. And that’s the nice stuff. There is evidence everywhere that, at heart, George Bush’s re-election strategy will focus on touting his aggressive use of the American military abroad (and the government’s investigative powers at home) in the war on terror–while simultaneously (by presidential inference and surrogate attack) accusing Democratic opponents of being too wimpy by nature to handle the bad guys....

Living Politics Plaintiff Vs. Defendant

These two senate fortysomethings-superbly credentialed, well-barbered sons of the New South-are key antagonists in the health-care debate. But they’re something else as well: symbols of how the political parties really work, and what they really represent. For it’s clear we should relabel Democrats “The Plaintiff’s Party” and Republicans “The Defendants’ Party,” and may as well replace donkeys and elephants with Edwards and Frist. The Patients’ Bill of Rights debate is, in many respects, an argument not about medicine, but about the role of lawyers and the courts in American life....

Liz Cheney For House Speaker Internet Divided Over Latest Suggestion

Cheney emerged as one of former President Donald Trump’s staunchest critics in the aftermath of his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, and the violence that occurred on January 6, 2021—when his supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol. In response to Cheney’s criticism, Trump endorsed her GOP primary challenger Harriet Hageman, who easily won the Wyoming primary and handily won in the midterm election on November 8. While Cheney was not reelected to Congress, she could still technically become House speaker if she garnered enough support from House lawmakers....

Liz Cheney Gets New Leadership Position From Democrats After Ousting By Gop

Liz Cheney Warns Terrorist Groups Will Be Fed New Soldiers As Taliban Unlock Jails

“As we watch the Taliban release prisoners across Afghanistan, there’s very real concern that there are not just fighters in those prisons who will join the battle in Afghanistan, but the terrorist groups globally will in fact be fed new soldiers in their war on terror from those prisons,” Cheney said during an appearance on ABC’s This Week. The Afghan government released 5,000 Taliban prisoners to initiate peace talks in 2020, a decision President Ashraf Ghani later regretted, calling it a “big mistake” that empowered the insurgents....

Lo Mein Street U.S.A.

So what, exactly, are we dousing with all that non-soy soy sauce? And if it’s no more authentic than a pair of fake ivory chopsticks, why do we even bother to eat it? Lee, a reporter for The New York Times, says the cuisine’s appeal lies in its dual nature: Chinese food is at once regional and universal, foreign and familiar. It has been a way for Americans to safely dabble in exoticism while holding on to their own cultural traditions....

Lobbyists Galore

While the Obama and McCain campaigns jab at each other over who is linked to the greater number of lobbyists, Hillary Clinton has managed to stay clear of their recent spats–even though one of her top advisers is a big-name Washington dealmaker. Lobbying disclosure forms show that in 2007, when the Senate was preparing a bill called the Labor, (Health and Human Services) and Education Appropriations Act 2008, Ickes lobbied Congress on behalf of the Brooklyn Public Library and the New York Hall of Science....

To sweeten the pot, Washington offered Pyongyang normalized relations if it cooperates in verifiably abandoning its nukes....
